Things That Go On in a Treatment Room That Nobody Tells You About

The first time a client lies down on my treatment table, I always start with a consultation—a deep dive. I ask about your skin habits, your concerns, and your goals. Then I turn on the magnifying lamp, and I look.

I check hydration, tone, texture, and elasticity. That’s the obvious part. But beyond that, I sometimes see habits, history, fears…even anxiety.

😴 While I examine the dark circles under your eyes, we talk about your sleep patterns. About how trying to do everything in a day keeps you up later than you want and wakes you earlier than you wish.

👀 While I feel the texture of your skin, we discuss your high-demand job. How can it drain the energy to follow your routine? How seasonal depression may have put a cap on your self-care for months, leaving your skin dull, and leaving you feeling worse.

🧘🏻‍♀️ We talk about your forehead wrinkles. They make sense. I know your kids are leaving for college soon. Pride comes with worries, and worries like to bring wrinkles. Financial stress, emotional stress, and the bittersweetness of watching your kids grow, it all shows up here.

🫣 I notice when you apologize for your acne, as if you need to say sorry for your body. I notice when you hyper-focus on one flaw and, in doing so, overlook all the parts that make you beautiful. I notice when your preoccupation with aging is really a fear that life is short, moving fast, and frankly… a little scary.

💆🏼‍♀️ I notice how, when you lie down, the tensions of the world don’t just disappear. Sometimes just being still is hard, especially when your entire life is built on moving at the pace of a steamroller.

And sometimes, by the end, maybe you relax a little. Maybe it’s the lighting. Maybe it’s the products. Or maybe it’s because you’ve finally said out loud something you’ve been carrying, whether it’s a pigment spot or a genuine fear for your family.

Here’s the thing about treatment rooms that they don’t teach you in school: what happens here is more than skin-deep.

When clients open up about insecurities, especially ones tied to appearance - it creates a tiny, emotional tie. It sets a tone: you can be yourself here. You can bring your struggles, fears, anxieties, and we can navigate them together.

A good esthetician will educate you about your skin, but never make you feel ashamed. They guide you with the right steps while helping you reclaim confidence. They’re there for the milestones- the tough ones and the joyful ones. When your kids hit puberty, when you go through heartbreak, when you get a promotion, or see your kids off to college. They are part of the journey.

Sometimes we cry together on the treatment table. Sometimes we celebrate. Sometimes you leave lighter than you came in, maybe even with a little hope.

As estheticians, we must be soft but firm. We funnel many struggles without internalizing them. We hold space, not baggage. We care deeply while maintaining autonomy… and yes, sometimes we have to set boundaries (because no one wants a drained esthetician).

There is so much more happening in that room than product recommendations or playing with jelly masks.

I like to think we are part of each person’s journey, in a way that’s bigger than even we can fully know.

At our studio, skincare is never about perfection. It’s about education, trust, and helping you feel comfortable in your own skin.

If that sounds like the kind of skincare experience you’ve been looking for, we’d love to welcome you into the treatment room.
